TENACITY Overview

Tenacity is a Boston-based youth development program that teaches tennis, literacy and life skills to Boston kids. In the summer months, you’ll find Tenacity fitness and reading programs on public tennis courts across the city of Boston, serving over 4,000 kids. Throughout the school year, Tenacity partners with a number of Boston Public Middle Schools to provide more focused, year-round programs.

Bridge Street has been helping Tenacity with their video programs and presentations off and on for about 20 years. In the past few years, Bridge Street has teamed up with longtime colleague Donna DeAngelis to put together their annual Fundraising Gala Program featuring a combination of video presentations interspersed with speeches from parents, kids, and tenacity staffers.

This video is a few years old, but offers a good overview of the Tenacity program.

Promoting Disease Management for Dental Caries

Early Childhood Caries (ECC), or tooth decay in very young children is a chronic, infectious dental disease. And yet, Early Childhood Caries is almost completely preventable. In 2008, the DentaQuest Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph's Health Services of RI teamed up to launch the Early Childhood Caries (ECC) Collaborative to develop new treatment protocols, and to reduce the number of children with ECC that were requiring surgical treatment in operating rooms, requiring sedation or general anesthesia.

Phase III of ECC Collaborative was recently completed. As of 2015, the Collaborative had expanded to 32 sites nationwide. The positive impact has been widely reported in several national journals and publications, including the International Journal Dentistry, the Journal for Healthcare for the Poor and Underserved, the Boston Globe and the New York Times.

This piece was written and edited by Mike Chvany and features footage that Bridge Street has captured over the past few years at a variety of DentaQuest Institute sponsored events.

Tenacity’s year round program with Boston’s Public Schools, started as a middle school program.  But it soon became clear that once kids moved on, Tenacity could continue to provide a “Pathway of Support” through high school and into college.  During this past year’s fundraising Gala, we provided donors with a sense of the entireTenacity Pathway and their college prep program.

This was the last of 4 videos that was woven into an evening’s program that included live presentations by staff, students and family members at Tenacity’s 2016 Annual fundraising Gala at Boston’s Westin Waterfront Hotel with over 1,000 attendees.
